Pierced Rock Press to Postpone the Release of its Highly Awaited Book

Yaoundé, Cameroon—Independent African publisher, Pierced Rock Press, regrets to announce that the release of its highly anticipated, undisputed upcoming classic African literature titled ‘Biték, He From Whom Death Ran, scheduled to be released on June 15 has been postpone to September 1.

 This is to commemorate the 43th year death anniversary of Biték Bi Bimai whose story is told in the book.

Pierced Rock Press still continues its book giveaway to newspaper outlets, literary magazines, book reviewers and book clubs for those interested in conducting reviews, author interviews and book discussions.

In this masterpiece titled Biték, He From Whom Death Ran,  Cameroonian political refugee in the Philippines and The Pride of an African Migrant memoir author Massocki Ma Massocki writes the history of his African ancestors by retelling their witness accounts.

The book is a condensed cross-cultural tale of Biték, the author’s grandfather, a man tasked by the divine to save his village from the grasps of its enemy—colonization.

Biték is an expository account of blatant violations and historical aggressions of the European colonization and its religion and laws geared towards eradicating the cultural identity of Biték’s African ancestors.

The month of March has been generally known as Women’s History Month, an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. In this year celebration, Pierced Rock Press revisited the life of an extraordinary African woman whose contribution to African literature in English language is inestimable.

Flora Nwapa

Florence Nwanzuruahu Nkiru Nwapa (13 January 1931-16 October 1993) mostly known under her pen name Flora Nwapa was a Nigerian writer, publisher and government official.

‘ Efuru’ her first novel and international acclaimed book was published in the United Kingdom in 1966 by Heinemann Educational Books, making Flora Nwapa the first African woman to publish a novel in English language and she became later known as the mother of African literature.

To encourage more women’s writing and the discussion of women’s issues in the society, Flora set up Tana Press in 1974. It became the first print press founded and run by a woman with a primary focus on women’s writing.

She set up the Flora Nwapa Company in 1977 to publish her works of fiction and other writers, both male and female then becoming the first African woman to run a publishing house.

Throughout her career, Flora Nwapa published close to 10 books.

Buea, Cameroon  -Pierced Rock Press is pleased to announce the release of the revised edition of ‘The Pride of an African Migrant’

A former African asylum seeker in the UK has authored a book  titled  ‘‘The Pride of an African Migrant’  that will be released on June 15 by Pierced Rock Press’.

The book is a political memoir of the  author’s stay in the UK. The book provides a lens to the panorama of  the lives of African migrants in Europe, particularly that of African  asylum seekers in the UK and outlines the barbaric acts of torture  that African asylum seekers are subjected to in the UK.

Cameroonian activist and columnist, Massocki Ma Massocki, who arrived  in the UK in 2007 as a student then ended up seeking asylum and lived  in the country until 2012, subtitled his memoir:  ‘In Remembrance of  Jimmy Mubenga, a Martyr of Globalisation, Murdered by the UK Border  Regime, on a British Airways Flight to Angola’

Massocki sets out from Cameroon, West Africa, to the paradise that  awaits in Europe. But instead in the United Kingdom he encounters  racism, state violence, insecure jobs, and imprisonment in three  different detention centres, destitution and begging on the streets,  entrapment by drug dealers, and an arson attack.

He journeys from London, to Southend and Liverpool. He meets and tells  the unbelievable stories of other migrants. Massocki documents his  struggle for his own and other people’s freedom and dignity.

Having peacefully protested against the killing of Jimmy Mubenga,  Massocki was arrested and detained naked in a freezing cell. After  some time, even the place he was staying at was set on fire, ready to  kill him.

In his 196-pages memoir, Massocki wrote:

‘ Racist texts found on the mobile phones of the officers who killed  Mubenga coupled with the recent Brexit reveal that the xenophobic  sentiment is still too strong in the UK for British people to let go  of. Such sentiments are fuelled by politicians in the name of  patriotism, indistinguishable from xenophobia. Therefore, it is high  time for international organisations to take action against both  politicians with xenophobic rhetoric and political parties with a  xenophobic social program. The Brexit is a red line that has been  crossed. UK’s membership in the EU was an anti-xenophobic training  ground for British people; with the Brexit, all hopes of  multiculturalism and tolerance have disappeared. The Brexit simply  means that the British people do not want Europeans in their country.  They do not even want their fellow white people in their country. What  does this leave African asylum seekers and immigrants in the UK, not  to mention the thousands who are on their way to the country? Are they  not going to suffer the fate of Mubenga? Are they not future martyrs  of globalisation who will be sacrificed on the altar of British  nationalism?’

Dr Melanie Griffiths of the University of Birmingham in England, an  expert on mobility and immigration enforcement in the UK, said, ‘The  Pride of an African Migrant is a provocative political memoir.’

Bill MacKeith, British activist and founder-member of Campaign to  Close Campsfield and End All Immigration Detention, said ‘The pride of  an African Migrant is a contemporary mental, physical, and political  odyssey. It is a powerful book. The more I go back to it, the more I  see its potential to change minds–those of migrants and even those of  people not forced to migrate.’

Dr. Toyin Ajao of the University of Pretoria in South Africa, said,  ‘We see the gaping horror of what asylum seekers from Africa faced in  the UK. Massocki Ma Massocki brings us, in the most gripping way, a  story so real that we feel our hairs stand on their ends.’

In celebration of Black History Month, Pierced Rock Press has compiled a non-exhaustive list of African American inventions since the 19^th century, undisputedly the century of technological innovations and breakthrough.

African American Historian, Carter G. Woodson, pioneered in 1926, the Negro History Week, to celebrate African American history as well as the contributions and achievements of the African diaspora most often ignored or marginalised.

The Negro History Week later evolved to a month-long celebration known as Black History Month, celebrated every year throughout the month of February.  In 1976, American president, Gerald Ford officially recognized February as Black History Month, urging everyone to ‘’ seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black American in every area of endeavor throughout our history’’.

History, in the words of Prof. Babatunde Fafunwa is, ‘’to a people what memory is to the individual. A people with no knowledge of their past would suffer from collective amnesia, groping blindly into the future without the guide post of precedence to shape their course’’.

The Pride of an African Migrant is a political memoir in remembrance of Jimmy Mubenga, an African asylum seekers who was  tortured and killed by the UK border regime  at Heathrow airport in London for resisting his deportation.

The book provides a lens to the panorama of the lives of African migrants in Europe, particularly that of African asylum seekers in the UK  and  outlines the barbaric acts of torture that African asylum seekers are subjected to in the UK.

The total cost of publication is ten thousand US Dollars including Copy-editing and proofreading, cover design and typesetting, publicity and marketing, printing and distribution.
